I originally picked up Red Queen because of the comparisons to Powerless, but revisiting it reminded me just how much there is to appreciate. From the fascinating divide between Reds and Silvers to the political intrigue and memorable twists, Victoria Aveyard crafts an engaging YA fantasy that's easy to get swept up in. While it didn't become an all-time favorite, it was a thoroughly entertaining four-coffee read.

When I finished Powerless, I discovered that Red Queen was one of the books readers were comparing it to. Curious, I picked it up for myself and ended up with pages of notes. From hidden identities and divided societies to palace politics and rebellions, the similarities were impossible to ignore. But do they tell the same story? That's where things get interesting.

Powerless by Lauren Roberts has sparked countless comparisons to The Hunger Games. After reading both series, I took a closer look at the similarities, differences, and shared story elements to see whether they feel like common dystopian tropes or something more. Here's my spoiler-filled comparison of the two books.

The Powerless series is more than its romantasy label. Beneath the trials, betrayals, and political intrigue is a story about identity, loyalty, and discovering who you are when everything you've ever believed is challenged. Add in one of my favorite enemies-to-lovers romances in recent fantasy, and it's easy to see why I couldn't stop listening. Here's my full series review, covering all three novels and both novellas.

Beth Is Dead is a retelling like you've never read before. Rather than modernizing the romance of Little Women, Katie Bernet reimagines the beloved classic as a gripping mystery filled with secrets, suspense, and emotional depth. It's a bold, creative twist that completely won me over.

Better Than the Movies has all the makings of a perfect rom-com, but it didn’t quite land for me. While the movie references and Wes had their moments, the lack of character growth, frustrating choices, and excessive language pulled me out of the story. I wanted to love this one—but it felt more like decaf than the real thing.

In Some Like It Scot, travel writer Katie Campbell heads to the Scottish Highlands for an immersive Edwardian experience and finds more than just a story to write. Between laugh-out-loud mishaps, a swoony hero, and breathtaking scenery, this clean romance delivers humor, heart, and meaningful character growth.

In The Body in the Bookstore, Annie Murray’s mystery-themed bookstore event turns deadly when one of her former college classmates is found murdered. With her criminology background and a lingering unsolved mystery from her past, Annie is the perfect amateur sleuth. This cozy mystery delivers bookstore charm, rich side characters, and a series mystery that already has me hooked.

In Love, Mom, Kenzie begins receiving letters from her recently deceased mother that reveal a past she never knew existed. As the letters unravel old secrets and hidden connections, Kenzie begins to question everything she thought she knew about her family. Packed with twists, emotional tension, and psychological suspense, this debut thriller is a gripping ride from start to finish.

In Apprentice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer, the stakes rise as Evie and the Villain search for answers about Evie’s mother. Packed with sharp humor, slow-burn tension, and expanding world-building, this sequel delivers twists, character growth, and a cliffhanger that sets up even bigger chaos ahead.
